oculus fighter jet game

Oculus Fighter Jet Game - The VR only flight simulator VTOL VR recently received a major update that includes a mission editor and a controllable fighter jet. The simulation is specifically designed to use VR motion controls and is available in Early Access on Steam.

Since our first hands-on in August, VTOL VR has gone through several rounds of improvements and fixes, including a move to a newer version of the Unity engine, GPS targeting and guided weapons, rudder pedal support, and compatibility optimizations for headsets, windows VR and controllers. The v0.0.7 update is probably the biggest yet, with the first creations of a mission editor, a new plane to fly, and other performance improvements.

The work-in-progress editor allows for the creation and sharing of scenarios similar to the game's island campaign, with unit placement, waypoint setup, objective settings, and more. After an open discussion with gamers on the VTOL VR Discord channel, developer Paolo Encarnacion decided to design the editor with a desktop interface for comfort and usability.

"People often wanted a lot of control and options when creating a mission, and that would be difficult in VR, especially during long editing sessions," he explains to Road to VR. "We also considered having an editor in VR to quickly create a very simple mission, but so far I don't think it's necessary."

Similar to the game's first aircraft, the AV-42C (also known as VTOL), the new F/A-26B fighter jet is a fictional aircraft with specific considerations for VR operations, such as: B. a slightly larger than life cockpit. real and instruments for more clarity and usability with motion controls. Encarnacion used the feedback and experience from VTOL development to design the new aircraft, bringing the main instrument panel closer together and avoiding placing the buttons too low where tracking can sometimes lose accuracy. VTOL could see this kind of improvement in a future update.

Vertical takeoff and landing present a unique set of control and simulation challenges, and the AV-42C remains the game's flagship, but Encarnacion wanted to add more variety and the fighter seemed like the logical choice since it works so well in yours had first tests.

"VTOL is focused on ground attacks, so I wanted to add something that can hit targets in the air," he says. “The fighter has a radar system which I think will add some interesting mechanics that aren't present in the VTOL. I actually had a prototype fighter jet before Early Access came out and it was great to fly."

Overall performance has improved significantly over the past few months, and the recent optimization is another important step forward. Distant objects are now less demanding thanks to mesh LODs on all AI vehicles and improved weapon scripts that ensure high-count objects like rockets and missiles don't unnecessarily tax the CPU. Encarnacion says that it is now easily possible to run scenarios with more than 40 units, where previously the game was struggling with 8 planes taking off from the aircraft carrier in one of the missions.

Further improvements and additions are planned for the coming months. The mission editor will see more friendly and enemy units, as well as new features that allow for more variability in missions. Encarnacion also plans to convert existing campaign missions to the new system, allowing him to finish the rest of the campaign using the editor's tools. This also lays the foundation for a random scenario generator. After that, Encarnacion says that map updates are on the horizon. "Once that's sorted out, I'd look at ways to improve the island map, create new maps, and maybe allow players to create their own maps. An X-Wing or a TIE Fighter?"
